Ibadan
is an ancient town situated at about 150 km from Lagos which
is part of the Oyo state, in the Youruba’s territory. The
Islamic religion is almost the only creed practised in
Nigeria. Christians are a minority.
The Dominican sisters of Saint Catherine are present in this
place since 2002, but they very soon realised that health aid
was one of the most urgent needs.
It is not sufficient to cure, we ought to educate...
The sisters have created a small clinic, making use of a place
built for other buts, and have started organising meetings in
the village of Ogungdade.
There
are many pregnant women who come to this small clinic for
delivery.
Concerning the future of your neighbour:
The work has started with great simplicity and
wholeheartedness and it is now turning up to be an urgent
need, especially in regards of those who are more
defenceless: women and children.
And those very same people are asking for:
-
A solid place they can refer to in case of illness and
sorrow.
-
A quiet and clean place where mothers can come to during all
the time of their pregnancy and at the moment of delivery.
-
A place where sick children are taken in and cured.
-
A centre where energies and time are spent for education,
hygienic and sanitary formation in order of improving life’s
conditions.
-
With the help of an Italian architect we have prepared a full
project concerning a small hospital that will respond to this
place’s basic needs.
-
There
are many friends who are demonstrating Providence’s concrete
intervention by a financial offering as their personal
effective contribution to the realisation of this project.
The works have began, but we still have a long way to go.
